Heather Kojan

In May, our guest speaker and virtual workshop will be given by Heather Kojan. Check out her website at www.heatherkojan.com to see her many exciting ideas and quilts! According to her online bio: “I’ve been sewing quilting for more than 25 years. My first quilt was a king-sized log cabin quilt – go big or go home, right? I consider myself a modern quilter, with traditional roots. I love taking traditional patterns and giving them a modern spin. And scrap quilts? My favorite! I live in Baltimore with 1 husband, 1 dog, and 4 sewing machines. I teach modern quilting classes at shops, guilds and shows across the country.” Heather is the founder and first president of the Baltimore Modern Quilt Guild. She is a co-author of the book “Classic Modern Quilts” and is featured in “The Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters.” You can also find her work in Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks.

Heather’s lecture is entitled “Quilt Remix,” and the Friday workshop is entitled “HST Master Class.” The students will learn to use 10 different methods of making Half Square Triangles. Fun, right? The cost for the workshop is $30 for members, plus pattern and ruler. and $45 for non-members. Tools available at www.etsy.com/shop/HeatherKojanQuilts. Go to Heather’s website, www.heatherkojan.com, for more information on the workshop and lecture.

Please note that the workshop is on Friday, April 30th.

Joy has designed over 90 patterns and is the author of numerous articles for the quilting hub as a quilting contessa. Joy specializes in appliqué patterns that are easy, fun, and nature-inspired. Her latest passion is bamboo felt appliqué which is a great alternative to wool.

Worksop June 4, 2021 via ZOOM: 10:00 – 4:00; Title: “Pretty Leaves, Punkin’ Bamboo Felt Appliqué”. Workshop fee is $25.00 and the required complete kit is $25.00.

Have you played with Bamboo felt and felt the buttery softness that it has to offer? Do you like receiving a complete kit for class so that you don’t have to go shopping or poke through your stash to find what you need for class? Pretty leaves, Punkin’ is a great opportunity to join your friends on ZOOM and stitch in your comfy home with the perfect chair and lighting, sipping on your morning wake-up potion. We will share techniques for marking on dark fabrics, doing buttonhole stitching, stem stitching, and padding some of our appliqués as well as leaving some appliqués 3D. At the close of class, you will have a project that is so near completion that you want to “get ‘er done” rather than having a UFO. Joy looks forward to stitching with you soon.

5 June 2021: Lecture – 10:30 – 12:00 via ZOOM with Joy Duke. the lecture is “Stitching In Public”. Please join Joy for a trunk show and lecture, which is a fun look at how people see our pastime as everything but what we are actually doing. During this program Joy shares the comments and thoughts of those that have “watched” Joy working on quilts and patterns and decided to share their views on how these things can be accomplished easier/better. The general public can be quite entertaining and really give you something to think about as you stitch.
